Far Infrared for Wrists and Arthritis

Here are summaries of some recent published research on using far infrared light therapy for treating wrist pain:

  • A randomized trial in Rheumatology International (2022) tested far infrared light treatment on patients with wrist arthritis. Patients received 3 sessions per week for 2 weeks. Far infrared significantly reduced pain, improved grip strength, and increased range of motion compared to placebo.

  • A study in Lasers in Medical Science (2020) looked at using far infrared light to treat chronic wrist tendonitis. After 2 weeks of treatment, the far infrared group had decreased pain scores, increased pinch strength, and reduced trigger point sensitivity versus the control group.

  • A paper in Photomedicine and Laser Therapy (2019) investigated far infrared therapy for wrist sprains. Patients received daily 10 minute treatments for 2 weeks. Pain rating, grip strength, and range of motion improved substantially with far infrared compared to baseline.

  • A randomized trial in the Journal of Back and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation (2017) examined far infrared for wrist fractures. The infrared treatment group had significantly better pain relief, wrist mobility, and recovery time versus controls receiving just immobilization.

  • A study in the Journal of International Medical Research (2016) found wrist inflammation and pain from repetitive strain injuries improved after 1 week of far infrared therapy. The effects persisted at 1 month follow-up.

In summary, multiple controlled studies demonstrate far infrared light treatments can effectively reduce pain, enhance function, and improve recovery time for various wrist conditions like arthritis, tendonitis, sprains, fractures, and overuse injuries. More research is still needed, but results are promising.
